krypton calibration change
Path length for q_h20_uv.5m changed from 1.005
to 1.008.
- 26: FAST , Site none, Sat 13-Jul-1991 21:16:56 GMT, krypton clibration changed
krypton clibration changed
Determined that calibration function for the krypton hygrometer has been
wrong; we were assuming a 5v offset and a gain of 2. Turns out that
the actual adam offset is 0 and gain is 1. Created a new calibration
function q_kh20_2a.c which assumes gain = 1 and offset = 0.
Restarted covar with the new calibration. Previous covar output for
q_h2o_uv.5m and all associated covariances will be wrong. Raw
archive data will be okay.

Fast T reinstalled
I had removed it for the ozone balloon-bursting timing tests. It is
back in. (5m.uw.eddy). The balloon tests took about 1/2hour.
- 82: FAST , Site none, Wed 24-Jul-1991 17:36:30 GMT, t.10m.ati replaced
t.10m.ati replaced
We also did a calibration, saved as:
/home/aster/projects/SJVAQS91/cals/tfast_10m.205
with switches every 5 seconds between zero, operate, and +5C cal.
The final Fluke reading was 30.2C - the fast T was reading about
2C higher.
- 104: FAST , Site none, Fri 26-Jul-1991 23:41:34 GMT, The heat flux on the scalar flux tower
The heat flux on the scalar flux tower looks
anomolously large this afternoon. This appears
to be caused by larger temperature fluctuations
at the scalar flux tower than at the momentum
flux tower. Is this caused by the clutter of
sensors and shelters at the scalar flux tower??
- 108: FAST , Site none, Sat 27-Jul-1991 17:47:54 GMT, Have noted that 5m eddy fast T has a gr
Have noted that 5m eddy fast T has a greater
variance during the day than the 5 m flux fast
T for the past few days. This also appears in
the heat fluxes.
Noted then that the flux fast T had a 1 deg C
increase around 2100 on day 205. Steve is
doing a calibration on that sensor.
5 m flux fast T is now reading 1.8 deg C higher
than the chamber reference, and the 5 m eddy
fast T is reading 0.9 deg C higher.
We put the chamber on both sensors and recorded
data in the operate, calibrate, and zero
modes. The data are in the directory projects/
SJVAQS91/cals in files tfast_flux5m.280 and
tfast_eddy5m.280. The gain of the flux fast T
is approximately 5.05 and that of the eddy fast T
is approximately 5.02 (analyze calibration data
files for better accuracy). These calibrations
occured between 1800 and 1900.
- 113: FAST , Site none, Sun 28-Jul-1991 00:24:36 GMT, Moved 10m fast T down to 5m on flux tow
Moved 10m fast T down to 5m on flux tower
in order to compare with others at 5m.
10m fast T was down from 2250 to 2400 GMT.
After moving the 10m fast T we did another
calibration on it. It was reading ~1.9 deg
C higher than the chamber reference. We
also did a gain check, putting the data into
projects/SJVAQS91/cals/tfast_10ma5m.208.
The gain appeared to be ~5.05; analyze the
data file for a more accurate value.
- 121: FAST , Site none, Tue 30-Jul-1991 18:59:04 GMT, Replaced transducer on t.5m.uw.fx. The
Replaced transducer on t.5m.uw.fx. The
data were looking very flaky, with large
excursions about twice per day. Looking
at the old transducer, it appears that the
platinum wire could have been intermittently
touching the supporting framework.
Replacement occurred ~1830 gmt. Performed
calibration with new transducer; data are
in projects/SJVAQS91/cals/tfast_5mflux.211.
The mean temperature reads about 2.8 deg C
lower than the chamber reference.

T fast work:
The bridge for the 5m.uw.fx t fast
was removed and looked at. The connector from
the transducer to the bridge circuit board was
loose. After fixing the bridge was re-installed.
This event took place from 00:20 to 01:00 GMT.
- 147: FAST , Site none, Sun 04-Aug-1991 16:32:51 GMT, The 5m uw fast T has not been drifting
The 5m uw fast T has not been drifting
as wildly since the connector in the bridge
was fixed on JD 213 at 0100. This appears
to have cured that problem.
- 149: FAST , Site none, Sun 04-Aug-1991 18:03:43 GMT, The 5m uw fast T on the eddy tower stil
The 5m uw fast T on the eddy tower still
appears to have a larger covariance than
the 5 m uw fast T on the flux tower and
the 10 m ati fast T that was moved down
to 5 m. They appear to agree at night,
but to disagree during the day. We are
moving the 10 m ati fast T over to the
eddy tower since it has agreed quite well
with the 5 m uw eddy fast T since Steve
fixed the connector in its bridge.
Moved the 10m ati T from 1700 to 1900,
then calibrated from 1900 to 1925.
When the chamber reference reads 31.6
the probe reads 36.0. Calibration
data collected in projects/.../results/
tfast_10ma5m.216.
Calibrated the 5 m uw flux T fromm
1925 to 2015.
When the chamber reference reads 27.3
the probe reads 23.5. Calibration
data collected in projects/.../results/
tfast_flux5m.216.
Accidently removed the tfast_flux5m.216
file!!

These files were cp to yield their equivalents
tfast_10m.205.ed
which had been processed to remove superfluous :250
vi tfast_10m.205.ed

They were then examined with Splus
cd $ASTER
Splus
fastt <- scan("tfast_10mm.250.ed")
X11()
plot(seq(along=fastt),fastt,ylim=c(30,45))
Non essential data points including operate - calibrate transients were removed.

The calibration offset function was then performed on the cleaned files to
yield the offsets, average, and standard deviation.
